Mooloolaba Spit stretches for over a kilometre between its world-class north facing beach and the Sunshine Coast’s famous fishing port. One extraordinary house exists on the Spit, all else being units. Mooloolaba Oasis is a brand new (completion April 2018) gem of modern architecture, set in established tropical gardens, overlooking scenic Christmas Cove on the Mooloolah River. Sandy Christmas Cover offers safe shallow swimming, soldier crabs and pelicans at low tide. The beach is across the road 40 metres away. Perhaps 100 restaurants/cafes are within walking distance, including some of Australia’s best seafood at the end of the street where the trawlers dock. Mooloolaba prawns are world famous!
Noosa and Australia Zoo are 40 minutes away, as is the Sunshine Coast Hinterland.
Mooloolaba Oasis is a 3-bedroom, 3-bathroom architectural intersection of 2 rectangular prisms, framing views and provoking wonder. Rectilinear and organic forms intersect, prominently exemplified by a quarter circle curved wall to the living room and its 4-meter diameter circular sunken lounge. Established trees and gardens frame the architecture and provide privacy. Superb lighting and audio-visual capabilities highlight the mainly monochromatic materials palette of off-form and polished concrete, black zinc and tallow wood, interpolated with outcroppings of incredibly soft, shag pile alpaca carpet, transilluminated black onyx and petrified wood.
The Zen vibe from the main bedroom’s outdoor bathroom is utterly relaxing. Equally relaxing is the connection with nature. An 8-metre-wide operable glass wall stacks away to connect the kitchen and living area with the heated and partially covered outdoor deck and the huge Fig and Tipuana trees sheltering it. Warning: This experience may be addictive.
